One bottle of dry red wine
One peeled and sliced orange (keep peel to add zest to taste into cooking pot)
Lemon zest if handy but totally optional
1/4 cup of brandy
8-10 cloves
1/3 cup honey or sugar   NOTE:
3 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp fresh or 2 tsp ground ginger (allspice can be substituted)
A tiny smidge of ground nutmeg (totally optional)


Combine all of your ingredients of choice into a large cooking pot (a soup pot will do nicely).
Slowly warm the ingredients on low to a medium heat. DO NOT BOIL! Warm the wine mixture for about 20-25 minutes.

Stirring occasionally to make sure that the honey or sugar has completely dissolved.

When the wine is completely warmed and the ingredients have been well blended it is ready to serve.

Ladle or strain the mulled wine into mugs without the seasonings. Garnish with a strip of lemon or lime peel and a cinnamon stick if desired.

NOTE: The honey or sugar sweetens the taste of the mulled wine. Use it to your own taste.
